Ready Rosie Program Helps Set Students Up for Success
Do you have a child ages zero to six? Are you looking for resources and activities that will help prepare you and your child for CCSD59? If so, it’s time to check out Ready Rosie, an innovative way for parents to learn and then teach their babies, toddlers, and/or young children.
Ready Rosie is an online resource that provides daily activities for parents and guardians to do with their children ages zero to six. The activities, which are simple and take only about two minutes a day to learn, are fun and interactive. Each activity is modeled in a two-minute video, and after viewing, it’s easy to do the activity that was demonstrated with your child. Everyone learns something new.
After registering, you will receive an email and/or SMS text message with an activity you can do at home or school with your child(ren). Each message contains an activity modeled in English or Spanish and an expert video to help explain why the activity is beneficial. There is no cost to parents to use Ready Rosie other than possible text messaging rates if applicable (if you choose to receive videos by text.)
Dr. Katie Ahsell, CCSD59’s Director of Social Emotional Learning and Family and Community Engagement, stresses that early childhood is a time when children are soaking up information rapidly. “Quality conversation and activities in early childhood propel student learning at an early age and set a strong pace for future learning,” she said. “Parents are the best possible educators of their children, and parents have all the skills and materials needed to teach children about reading, writing, math, social skills, and the wide world around them.”
One of the best things about Ready Rosie is that it features real parents, in real environments, living real life, said Dr. Ahsell. There is no preparation required and no materials needed to participate in the activities. It is as simple as watching the short video and then doing similar activities with a child. As children grow, so does the content of the videos, so they remain age appropriate.
Possible benefits of doing the Ready Rosie activities at home are that it can help:
- Prepare children for entering preschool or kindergarten
- Increase letter and number recognition
- Demonstrate community safety
- Boost confidence
- Contribute to the family’s quality time together
- Teach social skills such as sharing, being kind, and asking for help
“These very short videos enable families to use the skills they already have to better prepare their children for school and for life,” said Dr. Ahsell. “I encourage families to register today to begin receiving this exciting new resource.”
